Provincial Election

Posted by Peel Law Association on 31 May 2018

Given the upcoming provincial election on June 7, 2018, the Peel Law Association made efforts to reach out to the candidates for the four main provincial parties running in the riding of Brampton Centre to discuss issues of importance to the Peel legal community.  We considered the possibility of an all-candidates meeting at the courthouse, but none of the candidates could commit to attending such a meeting.  As an alternative, we submitted a letter to the candidates and asked for written responses to six specific questions.  We only received a response from Harjit Jaswal (Brampton Centre candidate for the Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario).  No response was received for the candidates of the Liberal Party of Ontario, New Democratic Party of Ontario or Green Party of Ontario.

Following the election, we will review this effort to engage in a dialogue with the candidates running in the riding that encompasses the Brampton courthouse, and consider how to improve the process for future electoral campaigns (including federal, municipal and bencher elections).

Please find attached for your review the correspondence sent to the candidates, and the one response received from Mr. Jaswal.
