PLA Library Services

CURRENTLY OPEN FOR REMOTE SERVICES

Remote Hours:  Monday - Friday, 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM. 

The Peel Law Association facility (Lawyers' Lounge and Library) is closed to in-person access in keeping with the public health directives and as a matter of professional responsibility to PLA Members, PLA Employees and Visiting Counsel.

 

PLA Library Staff continue to provide remote library research for lawyers, articling students and LPP Candidates, which includes resources such as case decisions, precedents, articles, checklists and in-depth research. Library staff would be pleased to provide assistance with your legal research request.

PLA Events, PLA Continuing Professional Development programmes

  • The PLA Library hosts events and educational programmes for lawyers in good standing of the Law Society of Ontario as well as articling students and LPP candidates, with proper identification.

Additional Services

The library has 8 research computers available for use by counsel, articling students, and LPP candidates.

  • PLA Members will have access to the following databases free of charge:
    • LexisNexis Advance Quicklaw
    • LexisNexis Practical Guidance (ask staff for access)
    • WestlawNext Canada (ask staff for access)
    • DivorceMate (ask staff for access)
    • RangeFindr
    • HeinOnline (ask staff for access)
  • Non-Members will have access to the following databases (some charges will apply):
    • LexisNexis Advance Quicklaw
    • DivorceMate ($25 charge for the day)

Borrowing Privileges (PLA Members' only) 

  • Borrowing privileges of gowns, court tabs, and vests are currently not available.


Locker Rentals

  • The PLA Library offers visiting counsel from outside of Peel the option to rent a locker for a day, or a week in the A. Grenville and William Davis Courthouse. The lockers are located within the PLA Robing Rooms, prior to entry the PLA Lawyers' Lounge. A PLA Swipe Card is required to access all PLA facilities.
  • A cash deposit is required in addition to the rental fee during registration. Registration is on-site only.
  • PLA Members only - Access to yearly locker rental services, subject to availability.

PLA Swipe Cards

  • ALL swipe cards distributed by the Peel Law Association for access to the PLA facility have currently been deactivated and no new swipe cards are being made at this time.
     
  • This service is for lawyers in good standing of the Law Society of Ontario as well as articling students and LPP candidates, with proper identification;
  • There is no charge for your first card, and registration is on-site only. Please contact Library Staff for for more information. 
  • Lost a PLA Swipe Card? Please contact Library stafffor more information regarding making a replacement card. There is a $16.95 charge for this service.
     

PLA: The Brief Shop

Make a quick stop @ The Brief Shop...

  • The Brief Shop sells court attire and PLA merchandise including, but not limited to:
  • court tabs, cufflinks, umbrellas, USB keys, books bags, and more! Please contact Library Staff for more details.
  • Located on-site for Non-PLA Members. PLA Members only - DISCOUNTED rates on all merchandise sold in The Brief Shop with an online store available in the Members' Corner.
     

Additional Services

  • Library services such as facsimile service, laser printing, photocopying and scanning are provided in the Satellite office. 

As a PLA Member, you have the option of charging library rendered services on your Members' Account.

An invoice will be faxed or emailed to you for all services rendered on a particular day. Only the name of the member listed on the account may charge services to the account.
