Important Notices

The Brampton Courthouse is currently undergoing two major renovation projects.  Please use caution when entering and leaving the courthouse parking lot and building entrance while construction crews work. Updates that may affect the day-to-day proceedings of the courthouse will be posted in the Courthouse Information section of the PLA website.

Please remember, you may have to allow yourself extra time to park and enter the courthouse in the mornings. 

Effective September 19, 2018 a newly modified front entrance to the Brampton Courthouse will be open to the public.  Please have your Law Society of Ontario photo identification card ready for presentation when entering the building.  NOTE: The swipe/photo identification cards provided by the Peel Law Association WILL NOT be accepted at the front entrance to the Brampton Courthouse. The PLA swipe cards provide access restricted to the PLA facility only which includes the robing rooms, lounge area and library.

If you  or someone you know is visiting the courthouse and assistance is required, we have been advised that accessible parking has been placed as close to the building as possible.  For those with walking aids or who have other accommodation needs, please contact the Accessibility Co-ordinator prior to visiting the courthouse to discuss specific accommodation needs.

How to Obtain a PLA Swipe Card

If you have not yet obtained a PLA Swipe Card, please see the following link on How to Obtain a PLA Swipe Card.

Your first swipe card is free, and takes approximately ten minutes to process. Swipe cards are made available to all lawyers in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario, articling students, and LPP candidates.

How to Become a PLA Member

In order to become a PLA Member, simply fill out the forms listed below, and submit them by email or fax to the PLA Library Staff. Once received by the PLA Staff  you can make a payment over the phone via VISA or MasterCard. You may also bring the forms with you on your next visit to the PLA Library and make your payment in person.

PLA Membership benefits include; overnight borrowing privileges of circulating material, running a tab for services rendered at the PLA Library, and discounts on our CPD programmes. At this time, the PLA does not accept online registration or payments for memberships.

It only takes a few moments to complete the form and make the payment. Once payment is received, you are able to take advantage of all your PLA Membership Benefits.

Library Services for Visiting Council

The PLA Library offers a variety of services for visiting counsel. For more details on these services, please speak to the PLA Library Staff and they will be happy to assist you.

  • There are eight computer terminals available for use in the library with access to the Internet and word processing software.  
  • Printing, faxing, photocopying, and scanning services are available in the library, for a fee. All services rendered must be paid for before you leave the PLA Library. The PLA Library accepts cash, cheque, VISA, Debit and  MasterCard, as payment options.
  • Forgot a document? The PLA Library can accept documents by email or fax (905-451-3137). PLA Staff will print the documents for pick up.  Printing and faxing charges apply.
  • Wireless service is made available for a daily fee.
  • Borrowing of  Criminal Codes, Family Law Practice, and Civil Law Practice is available for courtroom use. Items must be returned by the close of the same business day.
  • Daily/Weekly locker rentals are available for visiting counsel for a fee (a cash deposit is required). Please speak to library staff for more details. 

 TIP: PLA Members are able to run a daily tab, borrow circulating items for seven days, and have access to free Wi-Fi . Ask the PLA Library Staff for more details on how to become a PLA Member. 

Upcoming PLA Events 

The Peel Law Association hosts multiple CPDs, and social events each year. While some are exclusive to members only, many programs are offered to non PLA members.

Below you will find information about some of our upcoming CPD programs and events. Remember, if you become a PLA Member, you will receive the discounted PLA Members rate for all CPDs and social events.
