Book Spotlight - August 2018

Posted by Peel Law Association on 15 August 2018

Continue to watch this space for promotions highlighting one of the books recently added to the PLA Library collection, as well as old favourites we think may be of interest to our PLA Library users.

Today's spotlight is on the book, Assisted Death: Legal, Social and Ethical Issues after Carter. This text was recently added to the PLA Library Collection and is available for borrowing for current PLA Members.

From the Publisher
Physician-assisted dying, or "medical assistance in dying", as it is now known, was decriminalized in certain circumstances as a result of the Supreme Court of Canada's 2015 decision in Carter v. Canada (Attorney General) and implemented through Bill C-14 in 2016. This timely collection of 13 papers, developed out of a national academic symposium held in September 2017, examines the social, ethical and legal implications of the Carter I and Carter II decisions and offer meaningful reflections to the many perplexing questions currently being asked about MAiD.

Published: June 8, 2018 by LexisNexis.

The volume is divided into four parts:

PART I: CARTER'S IMPACT ON CANADIAN LEGAL DOCTRINE
PART II: CHARTER IMPLICATIONS FOR HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONALS AND INSTITUTION
PART III: THE FUTURE OF PALLIATIVE CARE IN CANADA AND SAFEGUARDS MOVING FORWARD
PART IV: CHARTER DIALOGUE AND THE CONSTITUTIONALITY OF CANADA'S MAID LEGISLATION

This item is available for signout from the PLA Library to PLA Members only. You may borrow this item for one week (seven days). Non PLA members are welcome to use this item in the PLA Library, but signout and borrowing privileges are limited to current PLA Members in good standing.

For a full listing of all of the new items added to the PLA Library Collection, please watch for your next issue of Peel Briefs (for PLA Members Only).
