New Practice Directions on the Responsible Use of Artificial Intelligence in Court Proceedings

Please see below for a notice posted on the Ontario Superior Court of Justice on February 12, 2026.


New Artificial Intelligence (AI) practice directions have been posted for criminal law proceedings. The practice directions provide guidance on the responsible use of AI in court proceedings and aim to promote transparency, accuracy, and accountability in the use of AI tools.

The Ontario Superior Court of Justice now has AI practice directions for civil law, family law and criminal law proceedings:

  • The family law proceedings AI practice directions can be found here.
  • The criminal law proceedings AI practice directions can be found here.
